The Song Cave is very excited to offer a brand new limited edition print made especially for us by the artist Richard Prince. With this edition, Prince continues his series of found, pornographic, black and white photographs with strategically placed CD and DVD stickers, suggesting a previously missing level of narrative. These “re-photographs” often imply elements of personal tragedy, exploitation or characteristics of humor that differ from the image’s original intent of sexual pleasure.

A maker of photographs, drawings, paintings and sculptures, Richard Prince’s re-photographing of existing photographs (initiated in the late 1970’s), helped spawn the appropriation craze of the 80’s. Mining images from mass media, advertising and entertainment, Prince redefined the concepts of authorship, ownership, and aura. An avid collector and perceptive chronicler of American subcultures and their role in the construction of American identity, he has probed the depths of racism, sexism, and psychosis in mainstream humor; the mythical status of cowboys, bikers, customized cars, small towns and celebrities; and most recently, the push-pull allure of pulp fiction and soft porn.

Richard Prince’s work is represented by Gagosian Gallery in New York City, and held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, NYC; the Museum of Modern Art, NYC; among many others worldwide.
